Summer in the Cotswolds

My painting captures a tranquil garden landscape bathed in soft daylight. A calm gentle river sitting in the foreground, its glassy surface reflecting the blue sky and surrounding greenery with delicate precision. Lily pads and subtle touches of pink water flowers rest near the water’s edge, adding gentle accents of color against the cool blues and greens.

Beyond the pond, a lush, sunlit lawn stretches toward a dense border of trees, their foliage layered in rich, varied tones of green. The trees frame the scene from both sides, their branches arching overhead and guiding the viewer’s eye inward. Dappled light filters through the canopy, creating a rhythmic pattern of light and shadow that enhances the depth and serenity of the composition.

The perspective—looking across the water toward the open grass and enveloping treeline—invites the viewer into a quiet, contemplative moment in nature. The brushwork conveys both texture and movement, from the soft ripples of the water to the intricate leaves and grasses, resulting in a scene that feels immersive, peaceful, and alive.
